Blog 8 : English language challenges

Hi uh, this is the last blog of the course and it feels kind of weird to do "feedback" throughout the semester. This was my first semester with the course, due to the result of the English test. The truth is, I suppose it is a new experience to have English classes at a distance or behind a screen. Despite this I think it was a good way to approach the course, with remote activities and group interactions. Within these remote activities, for the first time I experienced the use of these same blogs - yes, the ones you read before and this one included - it was something completely new, since it addressed different topics every week, and being related to personal tastes and own experiences , I found it quite entertaining to talk about yourself. On the other hand, it is not always perfect in all aspects, and personally I think that in my case, I fail a bit when speaking with fluency, my head is at times thinking about what I will say and thinking about whether it is what I really want. I want to say or answer, to correct this I think that making monologues with myself in English could help to partly improve this slow fluency, in addition to this, perhaps listening to more English, mainly with series or movies. And regarding this, another somewhat important point appears, since daily practice also benefits a lot, in my case, I use English for certain games, either communicating in voice or in writing, but mainly by voice, I must mention all of them. forms that are somewhat short phrases and not long sentences or interactions. While this helps maintain it, it may not be the ideal practice.

To finish the post and also the course, I would like to say that I hope to continue learning and improving my English in the best possible way :), we will see you soon (?

Blog 7 - What things would I change about my study program or career?

Today I intend to talk about my career or study program, which consists of 2 cycles, one with introductory branches and the other with optional branches to enter the specializations of psychology, the career has an extension of 5 years. During the 2 years that I have been studying the academic load is quite above all in the field of readings and essay writing. Although matters such as statistics differs from the rest, since we use computer software. Regarding the faculty, its infrastructure and facilities, unfortunately due to the pandemic I have not visited the faculty, I suppose it is somewhat tragicomic to be in the second year and not have set foot in the university. Considering the global pandemic in the same way, the classes had to be adapted to an online format that has been somewhat complicated at times, this due to how it affected us personally, both teachers and students. Despite this, the teachers have been in charge of finding interactive ways to encourage participation and motivation for each class, either with video capsules, assistantships, online activities, etc. Branches such as developmental psychology or psychopathology are quite entertaining, as they mix these two aspects and become very interactive courses and give us a glimpse of what the next branches will be in the following years. Personally I think that I would not change anything in the study program at this time, I think it is quite fruitful for the conditions in which we find ourselves and gives us a good basis to prepare ourselves as future psychologists, both in theoretical and practical aspects :)

Travel To The Future

In order to talk about the future, many times we must start looking at our present and try to observe where we are going. Personally, I think I would like to visit the south of Chile, something like Chiloe, Frutillar or Puerto Montt. They are very beautiful places and where nature takes center stage in the landscape. I am intrigued by how these places could be found in maybe 10 or 15 more years. Continue to see if they maintain their classic green colors or their cold and colorful waters, see how tourism has evolved and see if they continue to remain peaceful and free environments, or simply were ultimately reached by technology and modernity. Despite the beauty of the place, I would probably not stay, it would be strange to travel to another time and stay in it, so I would only spend a while, what is necessary to be enchanted again by those wonderful landscapes, and in turn, to be able to help in any way to preserve these wonders of nature.

Although I would also like to visit historic neighborhoods of Santiago to see if despite the passage of time they are still in good condition, some neighborhoods such as the Yungay neighborhood, famous for its architecture or its variety of food that it presents, I would like to see that technology It has helped to make life easier for the people who live there, but preserving those charming structures and buildings, it is a typical neighborhood for the people and a neighborhood where I spent my secondary education, therefore I remember it with great affection. I think that advancing in time 10 years would be enough to see the effect of the passage of time, although well everyone knows how unpredictable it turns out to be throughout life.

Blog 5 - My Future Job

I think it is really difficult to think about the future, I mean, who would have thought a couple of years ago that a pandemic would occur that has been going on for more than a year. I would like to perform in what I am studying, but I have not yet decided in which area of psychology to work, maybe clinical, forensic, social? Sometimes I think I would like a job to make it up as a team, I don't really know, but I suppose I still have time to decide. After being confined for so long, what I would least like would be to lock myself up in an office all my life, maybe the field work calls my attention at the moment, but I suppose it could change in 3 more years.

I really like the idea of traveling itself, so I suppose doing it while doing my job could be quite entertaining. Regarding salary, I am not interested in earning much, only what is fair and necessary to be able to live in "good conditions" although I suppose that aspiring to that in Chile is quite a request, I think. Regarding studying a major, I think it would help me a lot in any of the areas that I dedicate myself, whether it be the clinical as treating a certain society group especially, in the forensic area, maybe dedicate myself to complex cases with psychopaths? Maybe a lot of television is eating my brain haha. In general, knowledge is always welcome here, but what I know is that whatever I choose I will give my best effort.

About my favourite movie

Today it's time to talk about my favorite movie, Back to the Future 2.
This second installment is part of a trilogy under the same name, "back to the future." This narrates the events that happened after the first part and all the necessary journey to fix the timelines and return its protagonists to their corresponding times.
The film is directed by Robert Zemeckis and produced by Steven Speilberg. It was released in 1989, grossing around $ 331 million. In order not to spoil the film to people who have not seen it (despite being a classic of the cinema), this film continues with the story of Marty Mcfly and Doctor Emmett Brown, traveling through time in the mythical DeLorean. The story is governed in 3 different times: 2015, a 1985 very different from the one they came from, and the year 1955.
After solving all the conflicts present in these different times, and shortly after completing his mission, a small accident lets us glimpse the continuation of this story in a third and final part. All this, added to great special effects for that time, a memorable soundtrack and elements that remained in the film culture throughout time, allowed this film and saga to become a classic of the cinema of the 80s.

Blog 3 - Why I chose Psychology and The Importance of Mental Health

Since I was little I used to wonder why people acted a certain way on certain occasions and how this could change from one day to the next. Although during my childhood psychology was not in fashion and all disease came from the body. Being sad could only change "trying harder" not to be. Mental illnesses were not fully known to society and anyone who deviates from this era called "crazy."

As I grew up and based on my close circle that surrounded me, whether it be family, friends or colleagues, this topic was becoming more and more relevant and present in daily life. There were a couple of specific situations that ended, by creating a will in me that seeks to help people. For various reasons and in various contexts, I always saw people in distress, trouble, or moods that persisted for weeks. This made me internalize within psychology since I was 15 years old, looking for information, and learning what psychologists did. Little by little I became passionate about the way they could help, therefore it was something that I aspired to achieve, although at that time it was not a fully visible and understandable issue by society. Today, mental health, psychologists and psychology are more present than ever worldwide. Society has been in charge of making visible the importance of these elements and how this forms an important pillar within the identity of a person. Little by little, the importance that psychology deserves is being obtained, so that in the future, mental health can become a fundamental right within the world and society.

Today I´m talking to you about my favourite concert ever, it was in Parque O´higgins in 2019. Every year except for the last two due to covid, Lollapalooza takes place in Parque O´higgins, Santiago. This is one of the biggest music festivals held in the continent, with 3 days of various bands and artists of all musical genres. Multiple stages around the entire park allow different styles of music to be played at the same time, attracting large numbers of audiences in each of these, depending on what genre each likes. In my case I enjoyed many artists and bands like Lenny Kravitz, Post Malone, Kendrick Lamar, Vicentico, but mainly I was waiting for the concert of the Arctic Monkeys, which closed on Sunday around 9 p.m . Arctic Monkeys is a British rock band, formed in Sheffield, United Kingdom. They have 6 albums that span genres such as garage rock, indie rock and alternative rock. The atmosphere before the concert was chaos, everyone wanted to be as close to the stage as possible, people ran and pushed each other, until the beginning of the show everyone singing and jumping, including me, it was a wonderful two-hour concert, they played old and energetic songs and newer and more relaxed ones. I remember that during the last song they played, someone from the audience took out and lit a flare, that made all the people cheer up even more and sing louder. I lost my voice for two days after that but honestly, I didn't care, I had the best concert of my life that night.

 Hello to everyone

These days I was thinking about which countries I would like to visit. I came to the conclusion that there are quite a few but there is one that especially catches my attention, I am talking about of England, either for its architecture, landscapes or climates, I love it. I know about certain traditions such as driving on the left or the famous tea time, and monuments such as Big Ben or the Tower Bridge. If I visited England I would travel for his main cities, museums and buy many souvenirs and lots of tea. I think that working, studying or living in England could be complicated in the beginning due to the pronunciation of English and its accent, but after a while it could be quite comfortable either because of the prestigious universities or the well-paid jobs, that, added to everything mentioned above. In conclusion, yes, I would like to live the experience of living for a time in England
