Blog 3 - Why I chose Psychology and The Importance of Mental Health

Since I was little I used to wonder why people acted a certain way on certain occasions and how this could change from one day to the next. Although during my childhood psychology was not in fashion and all disease came from the body. Being sad could only change "trying harder" not to be. Mental illnesses were not fully known to society and anyone who deviates from this era called "crazy."

As I grew up and based on my close circle that surrounded me, whether it be family, friends or colleagues, this topic was becoming more and more relevant and present in daily life. There were a couple of specific situations that ended, by creating a will in me that seeks to help people. For various reasons and in various contexts, I always saw people in distress, trouble, or moods that persisted for weeks. This made me internalize within psychology since I was 15 years old, looking for information, and learning what psychologists did. Little by little I became passionate about the way they could help, therefore it was something that I aspired to achieve, although at that time it was not a fully visible and understandable issue by society. Today, mental health, psychologists and psychology are more present than ever worldwide. Society has been in charge of making visible the importance of these elements and how this forms an important pillar within the identity of a person. Little by little, the importance that psychology deserves is being obtained, so that in the future, mental health can become a fundamental right within the world and society.

  1. I really hope psychology and mental health can be as important as the physical health of the body. Glad to know how much you like it!
